User guide
This page is for players. If you run the server, start with the installation guide.
Join the voice chat
Section titled “Join the voice chat”- Get your link or your code from the game server (usually through a command or a message in game). Depending on the server, you receive either:
- a link, like
https://inari.example.com/?channel=default&code=a1b2c3d4, - or just a code, like
a1b2c3d4. In that case, open the Inari page and enter the code manually (with the channel if the server gives you one).
- a link, like
- Open the link in your browser (Chrome, Edge or Safari recommended).
- Allow microphone access when the browser asks.
- Keep the tab open while you play. Closing it disconnects you from the voice chat.
If you open Inari without a link, enter the channel and your personal code manually. The code must be at least 6 characters and match the one known by the game server.
What you will hear
Section titled “What you will hear”- Players close to you are heard, louder when they are near.
- The voice comes from the direction of the speaker, relative to where your character is looking.
- Players too far away, in another group (team, world, room…), or muted by the server are not heard.
Controls
Section titled “Controls”| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Mute | Others no longer hear you. |
| Deafen | You no longer hear anyone (and you are muted). |
Some game servers also bind these actions to an in-game key.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | Things to check |
|---|---|
| The browser never asks for the microphone | The page must be served over HTTPS. Check the padlock and the site permissions. |
| “The code contains at least 6 characters or is invalid” | Use a code of 6+ characters, and make sure nobody else uses it in the same channel. |
| Connected but nobody hears me | Your code must be the one registered by the game server. Check that you are in the right channel. |
| Others sound far or silent | You are probably beyond the maximum distance, or in a different group. |
| Connected but no audio at all | The WebRTC port (44444, UDP/TCP) may be blocked by a firewall. Ask the server admin. |
| Works in Chrome but not in Firefox | Some Firefox versions are not compatible with Inari. Use another browser or update/downgrade Firefox. |
| Only audio from some networks fails | Ask the admin to try PROTOCOL_MODE=tcp. |
